ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team slipped to 6-7 on the season following a pair of losses.
The Bluejays fell 7-2 to Minnesota-Duluth before ending the day with a 9-0 loss to Chicago State.
MINNESOTA DULUTH 7, ELMHURST 2 - Elmhurst opened the day with a 7-2 loss to Minnesota-Duluth, an NCAA Division II opponent.
Duluth swept the three doubles matches with Shelby Benkofske and Kelsey Zetah narrowly squeeking out a 9-8 win over Elmhurst's
Ava Kolman and
Rachel Rettger at No. 1 doubles. Drew Decorsey and Megan Anderson scored an 8-1 win over Elmhurst's
Chiara Gaudio and
Tori Liewergen at No. 2 doubles. Karly Weber and Katie Baasch toppled
Hannah Vaselaney and
Kathryn Wheeler 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst scored both of its points in singles play with Kolman downing Benkofske 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1 and Wheeler upending Jillian Klassan 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6. Decorsey downed Gaudio 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 at No. 2 while Anderson toppled Rettger 6-3, 6-3. Zetah defated Liewergen 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 while Elsa Erickson downed Vaselaney 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5.
CHICAGO STATE 9, ELMHURST 0 - Elmhurst fell to 6-7 on the season after being shut out by Chicago State, an NCAA Division I school.
Chicago State's Leshia Gadacz and Marita Kostyuk downed Kolman and Rettger 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while Hanna Pangestu and Monica Pulger handed Gaudio and
Dacey Maglaque an 8-2 defeat at No. 2 doubles. Carynne Lloyd and Lorea Gamboa combined to defeat Vaselaney and Wheeler 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Gadacz downed Kolman 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 while Kostuyk bettered Rettger 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Pulgen defeated Liewergen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Gamboa shutout Vaselaney 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Pangstu downed Wheeler 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Lloyd blanked
Skye Palumbo 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst competes in the CCIW Championships on October 20-22.
