CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team ran its record to 4-1 in the CCIW after scoring a 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 win at North Park University.
Elmhurst, ranked 17th in the latest AVCA Division III poll, improved to 15-7 overall while North Park slipped to 6-17 overall and 0-4 in the CCIW.
Elmhurst never trailed in the opening set turning a 7-7 tie into a four-point cushion. After North Park closed to within a point at 11-10, the Bluejays ripped off a 9-3 run to to take a commanding 20-13 lead. A kill from
Mary Lawrence ended the set for the Bluejays at 25-15.
With the score tied at 10-10 in the second, Elmhurst used a 9-3 run to build a six-point cushion at 19-13. North Park chipped away, pulling to within two points at 23-21 and again at 24-22 but a kill from
Alli Rogers ended the set for Elmhurst at 25-22.
Elmhurst raced out to an early 7-1 lead in the third set before North Park rallied to close to within one at 9-8. The Bluejays called a timeout and responded with an 8-2 run to build a seven-point cushion at 17-10 before pulling away for the 25-17 win.Â
Elmhurst hit .375 for the match with 54 kills and just 12 errors in 112 swings.
Melissa Nava powered the Bluejays' offense with 12 kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Rogers added 10 kills for the Bluejays while Lawrence totaled eight kills.
Hannah Nimrick added eight kills, 26 assists and eight digs in the win.Â
Lauren Wiltsie led North Park with 14 kills. The Vikings hit .186 with 30 kills and 12 errors in 97 swings.
Elmhurst travels Michigan for four contests this weekend (October 14-15).Â
