Box ScoreELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team opened up its 2015 campaign with an 8-1 victory over Aurora University.
The Bluejays (1-0) swept doubles over the Spartans (1-2) before taking five of the six singles matches.
No. 3 doubles came off the court first for Elmhurst as Tori Liewergen and
Katelyn LoRusso defeated Jordan Withey and Haley Cooley 8-2. The Elmhurst No. 2 combination of
Hannah Vaselaney and
Chiara Gaudio followed suit with an 8-2 victory over Jamie Huff and Melanie Findlay. At 6-5 up in their No. 1 doubles match,
Rachel Rettger and
Ava Kolman broke, then held, to take their match 8-5 over Chloe Madison and Micaela Mascha.
In singles play Elmhurst quickly closed out the decision with wins at No. 6 and No. 1. Camile Knapik-Balch defeated Huff 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 and Kohlman took out Madison 6-1, 6-1 to extend the Elmhurst lead to 5-0. Rettger then won her No. 3 singles match over Findlay 6-3, 6-2 and Gaudio was victorious over Mascha 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. At No. 4,
Hannah Vaselaney beat Withey 6-2, 6-2, which left just the No. 5 singles match on court. Aurora's Cooley outlasted Liewergen 6-4, 6-3, 10-8 to round out the 8-1 score.
Elmhurst open up CCIW play when they travel to North Park this Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
