Men's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team saw a 2-0 lead slip away against John Carroll, falling to the Blue Streaks 3-2. 

Leading 2-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining, John Carroll scored in the 82nd and 89th minutes to steal the victory.

JD Garnett

JD Garnett put in the first Elmhurst goal of the season in the ninth minute. John Carroll goalkeeper Liam McIntosh came out to play a long ball, but Garnett reached the ball first, took a touch around McIntosh to the left, dribbled in, and fired a shot past two defenders and inside the far post. It was the first goal of Garnett's career.

Jake Cohen

The Bluejays extended their lead early in the second half. Lucas Wetherby rolled a pass that sprung Jake Cohen behind the John Carroll defense. Cohen beat McIntosh far post for his first goal of the season. 

Jeff Kading almost added a third goal for the Bluejays, but McIntosh made a diving save to keep the game at 2-0. 

The Blue Streaks closed the gap in the 65th minute when Jake Lombardo dribbled from the right and took a shot straight on that beat Nick King

With eight minutes to play, Justin Miller equalized, chipping a shot over a sliding Nick King that trickled into the bottom left corner. 

The Blue Streaks completed their comeback by netting a goal with two minutes to play. A long ball put Jake Lombardo behind the defense and scored the game-winner, his second goal of the game. 

John Carroll out shot the Bluejays 23-7 in the contest. In taking the tough loss, King stopped four shots. McIntosh snagged two Bluejays chances. 

Elmhurst will look for their first win when they travel to Dominican on Wednesday, September 9.
