ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team dropped to 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in CCIW play with a 9-0 loss to Wheaton College.
In doubles play, the duo of Miranda Kay and Erika Nelson gave Wheaton its first point with an 8-1 victory over
Camille Knapik-Balch and
Katelyn LoRusso. Then, Elmhurst's
Ava Kolman and
Rachel Rettger fell to Julie Burrsma and Katie Park 8-3. The Thunder wrapped up their doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles from Emily Jones and Anna-Katherine Barrett over
Chiara Gaudio and
Hannah Vaselaney.
In singles action, the Thunder cliched a team win with victories at No. 6 (Sara Magnuson over Knapik-Balch 6-1, 6-0) and No. 5 (Kay over
Tori Liewergen 6-1, 6-1). Jones scored the next point for Wheaton with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Rettger. Elmhurst's Vaselaney then fell to Kristie White 6-4. 6-1. Wheaton's Buursma, at No. 1, and Park, at No. 2, wrapped up the match with victories over Kolman (6-1, 6-3) and Gaudio (6-3, 6-2) respectively.
The Bluejays take a break from team play for the ITA Regional Tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich. October 2-4.
