Bluejays Come Back to Snap Losing Streak

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team snapped its losing streak with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over MSOE.

In just the fifth minute, MSOE found the board on a penalty kick. A Raider was fouled just inside the top right corner of the box. MSOE called upon Aly Loepfe to take the kick and she hit a rolling shot inside the left post.

Elmhurst had a couple of chances at an equalizer in the half. Brittany Reinhart ripped a pass to Megan Hart who turned and fired, but couldn't get enough on her shot to get it past MSOE keeper Mary McFee. Kat Waugh also had a run down the end line, but her cross curled just wide of the far post.

Early in the second half, the MSOE defense tripped Anna Garritano in the box, sending the Bluejay forward to the spot. Garritano equalized with a line drive shot behind the dive of McFee.

Just over six minutes later, Megan Hart put Elmhurst in front. Allie Kightly ripped a free kick from distance that bounced high. As McFee charged, Hart tipped the ball over the keeper's head and into the net.

Looking for the equalizer with three minutes to go, MSOE's Maria Schumacher blasted a free kick that sailed just inches over the crossbar.

Elmhurst out shot MSOE 17-14 and put 12 shots on goal. Elmhurst's Emily Gordon made four saves in net, while the Raiders' McFee made nine stops.

Elmhurst opens up CCIW play when they host Wheaton College Saturday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m.
