ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team dropped to 4-1-1 with a 2-0 loss to UW-La Crosse.
The Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the 41st minute, when Megan Carroll's free kick bounced off a couple of bodies and sat in the box. Three Eagles converged and Kaylie Hanson booted home her first goal of the season.
Elmhurst had a great chance at an equalizer early in the second half, as
Emily Heimerdinger made a couple of moves and hit a right-footed shot that UW-La Crosse goalkeeper Kennedy Brault saved with a dive. Brault made seven total saves in her second shutout of the season.
The Eagles extended their lead in the 74th minute when Ali Roberts blasted a long-range shot just below the crossbar.
Elmhurst out shot the Eagles 12-9, including seven shots on goal to just three. Heimerdinger led the Elmhurst offense with three shots, all on goal, while
Sidney O'Keeffe,
Shelby Stone, and
Brittany Reinhart both totaled two shots. Elmhurst's
Melinda Vickers made one save.
