KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team closed out the Carthage College Tournament with a four-set loss to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Elmhurst fell to 9-4 on the season after suffering a 25-19, 15-25, 26-19, 25-12 defeat to Eau Claire.
Elmhurst raced out to a 12-6 lead in the opening set, but Eau Claire pulled even at 17-17 before closing the set on an 8-2 run to steal the opening set.
Elmhurst controlled the second set from the start, opening with a 9-2 lead and never looking back en route to the 25-15 win.
Eau Claire led from wire-to-wire in the third set, building an early lead and finishing with a strong run. Elmhurst pulled to within a point at 13-12, but Eau Claire finished the set with a 12-7 run to win the third set.
Eau Claire turned a 3-3 tie into a 10-point lead with a 12-2 run early in the fourth set. Eau Claire continued to pull away en route to the 25-12 victory.
Elmhurst hit .170 for the contest with 49 kills and 25 errors in 141 attempts. Rogers paced Elmhurst's offense with 16 kills in the loss.
Shannon Burns added nine kills while
Mel Lundin totaled eight kills and 14 digs.
Hannah Nimrick tallied seven kills, 39 assists and nine digs while
Mary Lawrence finished with seven kills and four blocks.
Amy Schryver led the Bluejays' defensive effort with 16 digs.
Eau Claire hit .255 in the victory with 51 kills and 16 errors in 137 swings. Katrina Raskie led the way with 12 kills and 10 digs while Kelly Riesgraf and Laney Lovell totaled 10 kills apiece. Jenna Smits added 46 assists while Talia Jaskulske totaled 21 digs.
Elmhurst takes on Dominican and Chicago in a trinagular in River Forest on September 23.
