DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team won five of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 win over Millikin University.
With the victory, the Bluejays remained undefeated on the season, improving to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the CCIW.
Millikin (5-3, 0-3 CCIW) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after taking two of the three doubles contests. Madeline Delano and Amber Morgan toppled Elmhurst's
Katelyn LoRusso and Camile Balch 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. The Big Blue made it 2-0 after Paige Bequette and Taylor Stanchin edged the Bluejays' duo of
Chiara Gaudio and
Hannah Vaselaney 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Elmhurst picked up a point at No. 1 doubles with
Ava Kolman and
Rachel Rettger teaming for an 8-5 win over Melissa Donovan and Molly Angell.
Elmhurst dominated in singles playing taking five of the six contests en route to the victory. Kolman made short work of Stanchin at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2 to even the dual at 2-2. Elmhurst went in front 3-2 after Gaudio downed Bequette 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Balch then toppled Delano 6-2, 7-6 at No. 6 singles to give Elmhurst a 4-2 lead. Donovan brought the Big Blue to within a point by defeating Vaselaney 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.
Tori Liewergen sealed the team victory for the Bluejays with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Morgan at No. 5 singles. Rettger wraped up singles play by rallying for a three-set win (5-7, 7-6, 7-5) over Angel at No. 3 singles.
Elmhurst travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Sunday, September 20.
