Anna Garritano's hat trick led the Elmhurst women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Benedictine University.
Anna GarritanoGarritano scored her first two goals in a 90-second span. In the 16th minute,
Megan Hart played a touch pass to Garritano that sprung her behind the Eagles defense. Garritano beat Benedictine keeper Amanda Lozada to the far post for her second goal of the season. Then, the Elmhurst forward took advantage of a Benedictine defensive error. The Eagles were unable to clear a ball and Garritano took a shot that beat the keeper to the right post.
Sidney O'Keeffe put the Bluejays up 3-0 with the first goal of her career. In the 27th minute,
Emily Heimerdinger threaded a pass behind the Eagles defense and O'Keeffe found the back of the net after a couple of touches.
Garritano rounded out her hat trick in the 55th minute, receiving a pass from Hart, cutting to the middle, and firing a shot from short distance.
Despite being out shot by the Eagles 19-12, Elmhurst put eight shots on goal to Benedictine's five. Elmhurst's
Melinda Vickers (three saves) earned the win and combined for the shutout with
Emily Gordon (two saves). Lozada stopped four shots in taking the loss.
Elmhurst look to stay unbeaten Sunday, September 20 when they host UW-La Crosse at 12:00 p.m.
