ELMHURST, Ill. - A doubles sweep and an
Ava Kolman clinch at No. 1 singles propelled the Elmhurst women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over North Park.
The Bluejays (2-0, 1-0 CCIW) swept doubles for the second consecutive time, the first time they have swept doubles in back-to-back matches since the first two matches of the 2013 season. North Park falls to 1-2 and 0-2 in CCIW play.Â
The No. 2 doubles combination of
Chiara Gaudio and
Hannah Vaselaney put the Bluejays' first point on the board 8-3 over Juviel Vinluan and Vilde Olvin.
Tori Liewergen and
Katelyn LoRusso needed a 7-1 tiebreaker, but completed their 9-8 win over Marlee MaCabe and Katie Chleboun.
Ava Kolman and
Rachel Rettger finished the sweep with an 8-5 victory over Lisa Daniels and Jasmine Madrid.Â
Camile Knapik-Balch put Elmhurst on the brink with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, but North Park stormed back to take three consecutive matches. Vinluan defeated Vaselaney 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4, Olvin topped Rettger 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, and McCabe won at No. 5 over Liewergen 7-5, 6-1. With the score now 4-3,
Ava Kolman clinched the fifth point for the Bluejays at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lisa Daniels. The final match on court went to North Park's Madrid over Gaudio 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-5.Â
Elmhurst hosts Dominican University at the Brune Tennis Courts this Tuesday September 15 at 3:30 p.m.
