Baseball Team Closes Season With Doubleheader Split

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team capped off its 2015 season by splitting a doubleheader at North Park University. The Bluejays took the opening contest 8-4 before dropping the final game of the season 6-2.
 
ELMHURST 8, NORTH PARK 4 (Game One) – Elmhurst evened the season series against the Vikings by taking the opening contest 8-4.

The Bluejays trailed 2-1 after two innings, but Elmhurst scored three times in the third to move in front for good. An RBI single from Ben Havel pulled the Bluejays even and Zac Tsiodras singled home a pair of runs to put Elmhurst in front 4-2.

Elmhurst tacked on a run in the fifth and a two-run double from Reagan McReynolds in the seventh extended the Bluejays' cushion to five runs at 7-2. Greg Struck belted a solo home run out in the ninth to put Elmhurst on top 8-2.

North Park used three straight hits to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Erik Swanson induced Jeff Paulson to ground into a game-ending double play.
 
Havel led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs while Tsiodras drove in a team-leading three runs. Struck, A. J. Compton and Nick Cusumano each collected two hits for the Bluejays. Compton added a team-leading three runs in the victory.
 
Justin Theisen picked up the victory for the Bluejays, tossing eight innings and scattering 11 hits and three walks. He allowed just three runs while striking out 10. Swanson pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.
 
NORTH PARK 6, ELMHURST 2 (Game Two) – The Vikings picked up the win in the rubber game of the three game series with a 6-2 victory.
 
North Park (18-22, 7-14) broke a 2-2 tie in the third inning with an RBI single from Joe Belmonte. The Vikings extended their lead to three runs after capitalizing on an Elmhurst error in the fourth to plate two unearned runs.  The Vikings tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning to earn the 6-2 victory.
 
Elmhurst scored both of its runs early, plating one run in the top of the first on an RBI single from Havel. A run-scoring groundout from Matt Conroy in the second inning accounted for the Bluejays' final run.
 
Havel led Elmhurst at the plate with three hits and an RBI while Brandon Kressner collected two hits and scored a run.
 
Havel made the start from the mound and took the loss for the Bluejays. He pitched five innings and allowed six hits and four walks while allowing three earned runs and striking out two.
 
Alex Vannucci tossed a complete game for North park, limiting Elmhurst to only eight hits and two earned runs over nine innings. He walked two and struck out six.
 
Elmhurst completed the season with a 13-27 overall record and a 6-15 mark in the CCIW.
