ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team moved to 18-10 on the season after splitting a doubleheader with Concordia University-Chicago. The Bluejays won game one 7-6 in 10 innings before dropping the night cap 11-7.

ELMHURST 7, CONCORDIA 6 (Game One) – Elmhurst lost a four-run lead in the top of the seventh inning, but
Meg Griffin's walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th propelled the Bluejays to a 7-6 victory.

Meg GriffinElmhurst jumped on Concordia quickly, scoring four runs on four hits in the first innings. Griffin and
Tiffany Potthast delievered the key hits in the frame. Griffin delivered a two-run single up the middle and Potthast added a two-run double to stake the Bluejays to a quick four-run lead.

Concordia (15-14) scored a run in the fourth and tacked on another in the fifth to slice Elmhurst's lead in half. The Bluejays took advantage of a Concordia throwing error to score a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning. Concordia catcher Emily Owens hit Griffin's helmet as she tried to throw out
Bella Masini stealing second. The throw ricocheted towards the Elmhurst dugout allowing
Katie Boals to score from third, and Masini to race in from second after the stolen base.

Concordia broke through in the seventh. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with no one out. Alicia Salata singled up the middle to drive in a run and keep the bases loaded for the Cougars.
Stefanie Sanidas entered in relief for Elmhurst and struck out the first two batters she faced, but Emmy Vowel roped a bases-clearing two-run double to right-center to tie the score at 6-6.
Elmhurst threatened in the bottom of the seventh with Masini reaching second with just one out, but the Bluejays left her stranded at third. After a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, the two teams switched to the international tiebreaker rule, with a runner starting each inning at second base. Concordia came up empty in the top of the 10th and Griffin doubled to right center to drive in Boals in the bottom of the 10th and give Elmhurst the walk-off victory.

Griffin and Masini each collected two hits to lead the Bluejays at the plate. Griffin drove in three runs and scored a run while Masini scored two runs for Elmhurst. Boals scored three times for the Bluejays while Potthast drove in two.

Sanidas earned the win in relief, working four innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. She improved to 3-1 in the process. Julianne Nation took the loss for Concordia, surrendering one unearned run in 4.1 innings of work while allowing two hits and one walk.

CONCORDIA 11, ELMHURST 7 (Game Two) – Concordia banged out 15 hits while scoring 11 runs to earn an 11-7 victory in game number two. The contest was called after five innings due to darkness.

Elmhurst grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on an early error by the Cougars. Griffin singled home a pair of runs with two outs to give Elmhurst a a two-run cushion.

Concordia answered back immediately, sending nine batters to the plate in the second inning and scoring three runs on five hits. Vowell delivered a two-run single to tie the score and a fielder's choice grounder from Allison Kruk gave Concordia its first lead of the day.

The Cougars' lead was short lived as Elmhurst tied the score in the bottom of the second. After a leadoff error allowed Potthast to reach, the Bluejays loaded the bases, and
Ele Walter's infield single scored Potthast to knot the score at three-all.

The Cougars sent nine batters to the plate for the second straight inning in the third, scoring four times on six hits. Alicia Salata drove in a run with a double and Adri Cura cracked a two-run homer to left field to spark Concordia's big inning.

Elmhurst scored two runs in the bottom of the third with an RBI double from
Brianna Thompson and a run-scoring single from
Mikayla Melone to make the score 7-5.

A two-run homer from Michele Alexander in the fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth gave Concordia an 11-6 entering the bottom of the fifth. Elmhurst scored a run on
Katie Boals' RBI single in the fifth to make the final score 11-7.

Griffin led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Thompson also drove in a pair of runs. Masini collected two hits and scored two runs in the loss.

Potthast suffered the loss in relief for the Bluejays, surrendering four hits and three runs in two-thirds of an inning. Alicia Salata picked up the win for the Cougars, working one inning and allowing two hits and one unearned run.
