ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team slipped to 15-9 on the season after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to 10th-ranked North Central College. Elmhurst was shutout 3-0 in the first game and dropped the night cap 6-3.

NORTH CENTRAL 3, ELMHURST 0 (Game One) – Elmhurst was limited to only four hits while dropping the opening game 3-0.

North Central scored all of its runs on one swing in the top of the first. After singles from Kayla Antle and Kiersten Tinkoff, Corrine Rowe smashed a three-run homer to center field to put the Cardinals in front 3-0.

Elmhurst threated with runners in scoring position in the first, fourth and fifth innings, but came up empty each time. The Bluejays finished 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in the loss.

Ele Walter, Bella Massini,
Alyssa Jasinski and
Brianna Thompson each had a single for the Bluejays in the loss.

Tiffany Potthast dropped to 7-2 on the season with the loss, surrendering seven hits and three runs in six innings of work. She walked five and struck out two in the loss.

Andrea Starr picked up the victory for the Cardinals, improving to 9-1 in the process. She scattered four hits and a walk while striking out five.

NORTH CENTRAL 6, ELMHURST 3 (Game Two) – North Central (17-1, 4-0 CCIW) finished the doubleheader sweep with a 6-3 victory in the night cap.

Brianna ThompsonElmhurst (1-3 CCIW) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the third after
Brianna Thompson led off the inning with a single and came home to score on
Ele Walter's two-out single.

North Central took advantage of a walk, a hit batter, and an Elmhurst error in the fourth inning to plate three runs and take a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals tacked on a run in the fifth to go in front 4-1 on a Cecie Portillo RBI single.

Elmhurst pulled to within a run in the sixth inning.
Brianna Thompson lined a double to the right field corner to drive in
Bella Masini and
Tiffany Potthast and cut the Cardinals' lead down to one. North Central answered back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a pair of runs on Brooke Kehoe's double to make the final score 6-3.

Thompson led Elmhurst at the plate, collecting two of the team's five hits and driving in two runs. Walter,
Mikayla Melone and Potthast also recorded singles for the Bluejays in the loss.

Stefanie Sanidas made the start and took the loss, allowing five hits and six runs (four earned) in five innings of work. She walked two and fanned five while falling to 2-1 on the year.
North Central's Sarah Esposito earned the victory, working 4.2 innings and allowing just two hits and one run. Starr picked up the save in relief, tossing the final 2.1 innings and allowing three hits and two runs.

Elmhurst hosts Saint Mary's College (Ind.) on Tuesday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 12, but was moved to accommodate a conference postponement for Saint Mary's.Â
