HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to NAIA Bethel College (Kan.).
The Threshers and Bluejays started with singles and Bethel swept all six matches before winning the three doubles contests as well.
In singles action, Bethel's top two players won their matches without dropping a game. Breanna Honer defeated
Nicole Darga at No. 1 and Allie Hipp won over
Hannah Vaselaney at No. 2. Rachel Herzog followed at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over
Lauren Kuehn to put the Threshers up 3-0. At No. 3, Madelyn Weaver extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win over
Brittany Kuehn. Rachel Shogren clinched the match for Bethel with a 6-1, 6-3 win over
Allie Moran at No. 6. Elmhurst's
Alexis Adams battled to a tiebreaker in the second set at No. 5, but fell to Ashley Shur 6-0, 7-6.
Honer and Herzog started doubles strong for Bethel with an 8-0 win over the Kuehn twins at No. 2 and Weaver and Hipp followed by defeating Darga and Veselaney 8-3. No. 3 doubles was a tighter affair, but Adams and Kristin O'Brien dropped an 8-5 decision to Shogren and
Kimberly Buzbee.
Elmhurst wraps up their spring trip against UW-Oshkosh tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
