ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team dropped to 0-4 on the season after falling to Aurora University 11-3.
Phoebe LeRoyPhoebe LeRoy put the Bluejays on the board first with an unassisted goal nine minutes into the game. After LeRoy's goal, the Spartans scored seven unanserwed goals to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.
After the break,
Meghan Keyes pulled the Bluejays to within five with her second goal of the season. Aurora scored four of the last five goals in the contest to win 11-3.
The Spartans out shot the Bluejays 26-19 in the contest. Hughes scored on four of her seven shots for Aurora, while Elmhurst's LeRoy fired six shots and scored once. Both teams converted eight clears, the Bluejays had 13 attempts and the Spartans had 12.
Elmhurst held the advantage in draw controls (10-6) and ground balls (18-16). Aurora won the turnover battle, forcing 27 and giving up 22.
Elmhurst's Keyes and
Nikki Togami joined LeRoy in the scoresheet with a goal a piece. Along with Hughes' four goals, Aurora's Andrea Colford and Lexie Wright each scored two.
Grace Knoebel stopped six shots for Elmhurst, while the Spartans' Allee Samuel made nine saves.
Elmhurst continues its pursuit for the first win in program history when they host St. Mary's College (Ind.) on March 21.
