Men's Hoops Team Rolls Past Albion 77-54

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team rolled to its second straight victory of over 20-points by dispatching Albion 77-54 and avenging a loss from last season in the process.

The win was the Bluejays third consecutive victory over a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) member. 

Elmhurst, ranked eighth in the latest D3hoops.com poll, turned an early one-point deficit into a seven-point cushion behind an 8-0 run early in the first half. Leading 20-15 with12 minutes to play in the half, the Bluejays ripped off a 13-0 run over the next 3:30 to build a 33-15 lead. Albion finished the half strong, outscoring Elmhurst 20-11 for the final 8:30 to pull to within nine points (44-35) at the half.

Elmhurst (6-1) left no doubt in the second outscoring Albion 21-0 for nearly the first 10 minutes of the second half, building a commanding 65-35 lead in the process. Albion (3-2) came no closer than a 22-point deficit for the remainder of the contest as the Bluejays cruised to the 23-point victory.

The Bluejays finished the contest shooting 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the floor, including an impressive 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from downtown. Bryant Ackerman led the Bluejays attack, finishing with 17 points and five rebounds in just 22 minutes of action. Erik Crittenden added 14 points and six rebounds while Brandon Schwebke came off the bench to score 10 points. Pat Coleman added seven points and six rebounds while Will Nixon tallied seven points and five boards. Kenny Payonk chipped in with six and Kyle Wuest finished with five, needing just three points to hit the 1,000-point career mark. Tucker Harlan led the Bluejays in assists, finishing with five. 

Albion struggled with its shooting all game long, hitting just 26.8 percent (15-of-56) of its shots. The Britons were ice cold in the second half, shooting just 4-of-28 (14.3 percent) in the game's final 20 minutes. Arshawn Parker came off the bench to lead the Britons in scoring, finishing with 10 points. Corey Wheeler and Jibreel Hussein added nine points apiece in the loss. Jordan Herron collected a game-high eight rebounds in the loss.

Elmhurst will play its fourth consecutive MIAA opponent on Wednesday, December 9, by welcoming Olivet College to R.A. Faganel Hall.
