NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Elmhurst wrestling team moved to 3-2 on the season after posting a 1-2 record at the Gator Boots Duals.
The Bluejays fell 29-13 to 21st-ranked Ferrum before dropping a 25-21 decision to #18 UW-Whitewater. Elmhurst closed the tournament with a 30-6 dual win over Loras.
FERRUM 29, Elmhurst 13 - The Bluejays suffered their first dual meet loss of the season, falling to #21 Ferrum 29-13. The Bluejays won three of the first four contests, but Ferrum closed the dual with six straight victories to pull away for the 16-point win.
Elmhurst's
Anthony Munoz opened with a 10-6 decision over Cooper Bailey at 125 pounds. Ferrum's Robert Cunningham pinned
Caleb Ramos in 4:30 at 133 pounds, but the Bluejays bounced back with two straight wins at 141 and 149 pounds. At 141 pounds,
Jimmy Nehls pinned Jacob Bonds in the second period (3:41). At 149 pounds, top-ranked
Blake Santi dipatched Paul Briggs by major decision (13-3).
Ferrum's Logan Meister defeated Nick DiNardo 4-1 at 157 pounds and Hubert Alston followed with a 10-1 major decision over the Bluejays'
Tim Noverini at 165 pounds. Blake Rosenbom scored a 14-4 major decision over Elmhurst's
Mitch Morris at 174 pounds and Hunter Goulart followed with a 4-2 win over
Bobby Schillinger at 184 pounds. Adam Bresson pinned Elmhurst's
Colton Kelly in 2:07 at 197 pounds. Ferrum's Tate Dulany toppled
Zack Urbanski 10-5 at 285 pounds to close out the dual.
WHITEWATER 25, ELMHURST 21 - The Bluejays fell to 2-2 on the season in dual meets after suffering a narrow four-point loss to #18 UW-Whitewater.
Elmhurst opened the dual with a 6-0 lead after Munoz earned a forfeit victory at 125 pounds. Whitewater quickly pulled even after Joe Brodman pinned Ramos in 4:36 at 133 pounds. In a battle of former teammates and nationally-ranked wrestlers, second-ranked Matt Adcock from Whitewater narrowly edged third-ranked Nehls 6-4 at 141 pounds. Santi put Elmhurst back in front 10-9 with a 17-6 major decision over Isaiah Vela at 149 pounds.
Whitewater took control of the dual over the next four matches. Brandon Arteage downed DiNardo 3-0 to put the Warhawks in front 12-10. Tommy Gerszewski followed with an 11-2 major decision over Noverini to pad the Warhawks lead to six points. Connor Price upended
Steve Myers 8-2 at 174 pounds to put UW-Whitewater in front 19-10. Nick Bonomo followed with a pin of Schillinger at 184 pounds (4:42) to give the Warhawks a 25-10 cushion and clinch the dual win.
Elmhurst won the final two matches of the dual. Kelly scored a 15-0 first-round technical fall over Bo Wileman at 197 pounds while Urbanski pinned Jordan Festge in 6:18 at 285 pounds.
ELMHURST 30, LORAS 6 - Elmhurst closed the tournament with a 30-6 dual win over Loras College. The Bluejays won nine of the 10 matches en route to the 24-point win.
Loras scored its only points of the dual at 125 pounds with Dayton Olson pinning Munoz in 1:08. Elmhurst dominated the rest of the way, winning nine straight matches to put away the dual.
Ramos downed Michael Triplet 9-3 at 133 pounds and Nehls followed with a 10-3 victory over Evan Weaver at 141. Santi remained perfect on the season by scoring a 15-0 technical fall over Collin Griffin at 149 pounds. Noverini dispatched Jimmy Davis by major decision (18-4) at 157 pounds and DiNardo followed with a 3-1 win over Sam Schuler at 165 pounds. Morris upended Ben Kindle 6-3 at 174 pounds and Schillinger followed with a 12-7 victory over Connor Swier at 184. Kelly toppled Malcom Watson 6-4 at 197 pounds and Urbanski blanked Collin Griffin 4-0 in the final match of the dual.
