Arvidson's Hat Trick Leads Bluejays To Third Straight Win

ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst freshman Josh Arvidson scored all three goals, including an overtime game winner, to lead the men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Simpson.

For the Bluejays (4-6-1, 1-0 CCIW), it was their third straight victory and second consecutive overtime win after Alec Gnass scored in the 105th minute on Saturday to beat No. 22 Wheaton 2-1.

Simpson (4-7-1, 0-2 IIAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when Colby Jacobson blasted a shot over Nick King from 10 yards out.

Arvidson pulled Elmhurst even in the 34th minute. Jordan Fletcher provided the assist as Arvidson buried a header from 10 yards out. The Elmhurst freshman then added his second goal of the game after halftime, ripping a shot from the left side that deflected over Simpson goalkeeper Sam McEntee and into the back of the net.

The Storm brought the game level in the 81st minute, taking advantage of an Elmhurst team playing with 10 men. Daruis Doswell knocked in a header off a corner kick to knot the score at two.

In overtime, Arvidson finished off his career night in style, burying a header off a Keegan Thompson cross from 12 yards out.

Simpson out shot Elmhurst 19-11 in the contest. King made seven saves for the Bluejays, while McEntee stopped three Elmhurst chances.

The Bluejays look for their fourth consecutive win on Saturday, October 10 when they travel to Augustana.
