CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst football team slid to 3-3 on the season following a 24-14 road loss at North Park University.
Elmhurst (0-3 CCIW) led 7-3 at the half, but North Park (2-4, 1-2 CCIW) blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown to swing the momentum in the second half. The Vikings scored 21 straight points to start the second half en route to the 10-point victory.
The loss ended Elmhurst's 14-year winning streak against North Park.Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard midway through the opening quarter. The Bluejays drove 80 yards in just eight plays, capping the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass from
Drew Domino to
Garrett Claxon.
North Park put points on the scoreboard on its next possession, driving 55 yards to the Elmhurst 18-yard line before settling for a 36-yard field goal from Noah Moore.
The remainder of the half proved to be a defensive struggle as neither team was able to put points on the board. Elmhurst's defense kept North Park in check, limiting the Vikings to only one first down until late in the second quarter. The Vikings drove 73 yards to the Elmhurst 28-yard line, but
Tyler Hosman recovered a North Park fumble to end the scoring threat.
Elmhurst's defense stuffed the Vikings on a fourth-down attempt to open the third quarter. The Bluejays offense took over and promptly drove to the North Park 17-yard line.
Brett Bayer's 37-yard field goal attempt was blocked by David Simmons Jr and Robbie Hiller picked up the loose ball and returned it 76 yards for a North Park touchdown, giving the Vikings a 10-7 lead in the process.
Elmhurst's offense struggled following the North Park score as the Bluejays were limited to just one first down over their next five possessions. Meanwhile, North Park capped a seven-play, 54-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass from T.D. Conway to Devin Childress in the third quarter to take a 17-7 lead. The Vikings added a one-yard touchdown run from John Wilkinson late in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 24-7.

Korey Partenheimer to make the final score 24-14.
North Park outgained Elmhurst 339-283 in the contest. The Bluejays had the edge on the ground, rushing for 112 yards to North Park's 67. The Vikings held the advantage in the passing game, throwing for 272 yards to Elmhurst's 171.
The Bluejays finished the contest 6-of-18 on third down, but just 2-of-8 in the second half. Elmhurst's defense was strong against North Park on third down. The Vikings converted just 2-of-13 third-down attempts.
Connor Brewer led Elmhurst's ground attack, carrying 14 times for 84 yards in the loss. Domino completed 18-of-39 pass attempts for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Claxon was the top receiver for the Bluejays, hauling in seven passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Conway led North Park's offense, finishing 17-of-32 for 272 yards ana touchdown through the air. Childress was the Vikings' top target, catching five passes for 130 yards and a score.
John Rubino led Elmhurst's defense, totaling nine tackles including half a sack in the loss.
Andy Warsen added eight stops and recovered a fumble for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst will attempt to snap its three-game skid next Saturday, October 24, when the Bluejays host Illinois Wesleyan University.
