GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Elmhurst volleyball team upped its record to 18-7 on the season by disposing of Alma College in three sets at the Midwestern Invitational hosted by Calvin College.
Elmhurst downed Alma (9-13) 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 while hitting .263 for the match.
The Bluejays raced out to a 10-5 lead in the opening set and never looked back, as Alma came no closer than a four-point deficit as Elmhurst rolled to a 25-15 win.
The second set started back-and-forth with the score even at 13-13. Elmhurst ripped off a 9-1 run over the next 10 points to seize control and open up a 22-14 lead en route to the 25-16 win.
Alma started strong in the third, building a 7-2 lead and forcing the Bluejays to burn a timeout. Elmhurst responded immediately, winning the next eight points to turn a five-point deficit into a three-point advantage. Alma pulled even at 22-22, but an error on Alma put the Bluejays back in front at 23-22. A kill from

The Bluejays hit .263 with 36 kills and 11 errors in 95 swings.
Hannah Davis led a balanced Elmhurst attack with eight kills, hitting .500 in the victory. Burns,
Hannah Nimrick and Jamie Vargo added six kills apiece in the victory. Nimrick added 21 assists, four aces and 12 digs while Lawrence tallied a match-high five blocks.
Amy Schryver matched Nimrick's dig total of 12 to finish as the team's co-leader in the category.
Alma finished the match hitting .100 with 31 kills and 20 errors in 110 attempts. Hannah Guilford led the Scots in the loss with 10 kills and 10 digs. Dakota Pelach added 18 assists and eight digs.
Elmhurst takes on Clarkson University on Friday evening.
