Ava Kolman won a three-set match at No. 1 singles as the Elmhurst women's tennis team fell to Carthage College 8-1.Â
Kolman finishes the fall schedule 8-3 in dual matches and 5-2 in conference play. She will be the No. 3 seed in the top flight of the CCIW Championships next weekend.Â
In doubles play, Carthage took control with three 8-1 victories. Max Mella and Angelica Emmanouil won at No. 1 doubles over Kolman and
Rachel Rettger, Casey Frommer and Taylor Bolyard defeated
Chiara Gaudio and
Hannah Vaselaney at No. 2, and, at No. 3, Kristen Kalinka and Eliza Barter took out
Camille Knapik-Balch and
Tori Liewergen.Â
In singles play, Carthage clinched the match when Emmanouli defeated Liewergen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Bolyard beat Vaselaney 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Frommer followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Gaudio for the Lady Reds and Barter finished off Rettger 6-2, 6-2. After a tight first set loss 6-4, Knapik-Balch fell 6-1 in the second set to Kirsten Petersen. Kolman wrapped up the match with her comeback win at No. 1 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.Â
Elmhurst finishes its fall season at the CCIW Championships in Hanover Park this weekend (October 22-24).Â
