ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team scored its first CCIW victory of the season by edging North Park University 5-4 at Courts Plus.
Hannah VaselaneyElmhurst won two of the three doubles matches and the two squads split the six singles contests in the tightly contested match.
Nicole Darga and
Annie Duggan combined to defeat Juviel Vinluan and Lisa Daniels 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. Garrette Gessert and Marlee McCabe edged
Brittany Kuehn and
Hannah Vaselaney 9-7 at No. 2 doubles. Elmhurst's
Lauren Kuehn and
Allie Moran stopped Danielle Pivonka and Marina Fodstadt 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to give Elmhurst a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
North Park (2-6, 0-5 CCIW) started strong in singles play, winning the first three matches. Daniels downed Darga 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Gessert followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Duggan at No. 2 singles. Vinlun stopped
Brittany Kuehn 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Elmhurst won the final three singles matches to earn the 5-4 win.
Lauren Kuehn downed Pivonka 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Moran dispatched Maglaque 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. The match came down to No. 4 singles between Vaselaney and McCabe. McCabe won the opening set 6-3, but Vaselaney answered back winning 7-5 in the second and 6-2 in the third to give Elmhurst the win.
