Bluejays Close Season With Pair of Losses at IWU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team closed out the 2014 season with a pair of losses at Illinois Wesleyan University. The Bluejays fell 17-7 in game one and dropped game two by a 10-0 score.

Elmhurst finished the season with a 15-22 overall record and a 9-12 mark in the CCIW.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 17, ELMHURST 7 -  Illinois Wesleyan banged out 21 hits and totaled 17 runs while knocking off the Bluejays by 10 runs in seven innings.

The TItans scored multiple runs in five different innings, including four runs in the first and fourth innings and a five-run outburst in the fifth.

Elmhurst trailed 10-2 after four innings before scoring a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI double from Ben Havel and a run-scoring single from Greg Struck. The Titans broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 15-4 lead.

Elmhurst added three runs in the sixth on a two-run double from Tyler Wargo and a run-scoring single from Dave Wolak to bring the Bluejays to within eight runs, but the Titans scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to score the 10-run victory.

Havel led the Elmhurst offense with three hits and two RBI. A.J. Compton added three hits, scored a run and also drove in a run.

Nick Hahn paced the Titans, finishing 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI. Matthew Mardis also drove in four while Tim Coonan added three hits and three RBI.

Ryan Millan took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering 11 hits and 10 runs in three innings of work. Matt Hart picked up the win for the Titans, allowing 11 hits and seven runs in five innings. Hart walked one and fanned seven.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 10, ELMHURST 0 - The Bluejays managed just one hit while being shutout 10-0 in game two of the doubleheader.

Wargo led off the game with a double, but the Bluejays were held without a hit for the remainder of the game.

Coonan led the Titans with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI.

Justin Theisen took the loss for the Bluejays, allowing eight hits and five runs (three earned) over six innings. Theisen walked two and fanned three.
