Bluejays Lose Pitchers Duel to Illinois Wesleyan

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team was eliminated from CCIW Tournament contention after dropping a hard-fought 3-1 pitcher's duel against Illinois Wesleyan University.

Illinois Wesleyan (19-16, 12-7 CCIW) jumped out to a quick lead after Adam Glagovsky singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and then scored on Sam Santa Maria's RBI ground out.

Elmhurst (15-20, 9-10 CCIW) pulled even in the third. A.J. Compton walked and then stole second with one out. Dave Wolak delivered an RBI single drive in Compton and even the score at 1-1.

The Titans went back on top in the fifth when Bobby Czarnowski doubled to drive home Jake Capko.Elmhurst threatened in the sixth but came up empty. Back-to-back errors on the Titans put Elmhurst runners at first and third with no outs, but a grounder to the pitcher and a pair of strikeouts ended Elmhurst's scoring chances.The TItans tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to make the final score 3-1.

Jordan Hanlon took the loss for Elmhurst despite pitching well. Hanlon scattered 10 hits and three runs over 8.2 innings of work. He walked only two while striking out six.

Jeff Johnson picked up the victory for the Titans, allowing just two hits and one earned run while tossing eight innings. Johnson did not allow an Elmhurst hit after the third inning. He walked three and fanned 10. Dan Truesdale worked the ninth inning and recorded his second save of the season.

Elmhurst wraps up the 2014 season by playing a doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan tomorrow (May 3) at 1:00 p.m.
