Box Score EUREKA, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team collected its fifth win of the season by banging out 16 hits in a 12-7 victory over Eureka College.
Eureka (4-14) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after one inning, but the Bluejays quickly surged in front with four runs in the top of the third.
Tyler Wargo sparked the inning with a two-run triple while
Greg Struck added a run-scoring double.
Elmhurst tacked on a run in the fourth on an RBI single from Wargo and the Bluejays plated two more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-3.
Eureka closed to within three runs by scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth, but Elmhurst took advantage of a pair of Eureka errors in the ninth to score five unearned runs.
Wargo, Struck and
Dave Wolak paced Elmhurst's offense with three RBI apiece. Wargo finished 4-for-6 with a pair of runs scored while
Zach Tsiodras collected three hits, scored a pair of runs and also drove in a run.
Ben Havel knocked in two runs and
Eric Stevenson banged out three hits and scored three runs.
Jeff Guzzi picked up the win for the Bluejays, tossing seven strong innings, allowing just five hits and three earned runs. He walked one and fanned nine.
Elmhurst (5-14) plays at Wheaton College tomorrow (April 9).
