Bluejays Fall at Augustana

Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team banged out 13 hits and eight runs but came up on the short end of a 15-8 loss at Augustana College.

Augustana (14-6, 6-2 CCIW) completed the three-game series sweep over the Bluejays with the victory. Elmhurst fell to 4-14 overall and 0-8 in the CCIW.

The Bluejays jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after a four-run third inning. A two-run double from Greg Struck keyed the inning and Tyler Wargo and Tom Pumo both drove in runs in the inning.

Augustana slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the third, a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth to even the score at 4-4. The Vikings blew the game open with a four-run outburst in the sixth inning. Jacob Van Duyne smacked a two-run homer to spark the Vikings while Brandon Jasper and Kyle Lenihan each drove in a run in the inning to give Augustana an 8-4 lead. The Vikings tacked on a run in the seventh to increase their lead to five runs.

The Bluejays rallied in the top of the sixth with three runs, cutting Augustana's lead down to just two. Luke Collins delivered the big blow for the Bluejays in the inning with a two-run homer to left field.

Augustana put the game out of reach in the eighth inning as the Vikings sent 10 batters to the plate and took advantage of three Elmhurst errors to score six unearned runs.

Struck and Collins finished with three hits apiece while also driving two runs each. Pumo, Wargo and Chris Fisher each collected two hits in the loss.

Ryan Millan took the loss for the Bluejays, allowing 11 hits, eight runs (four earned) and one walk in 5.2 innings of work. Millan struck out two. Augustana starter Walter White was chased in the third inning, lasting just 2.2 innings while allowing three hits, four runs and five walks. Kyle McGinley earned the win in relief for the Vikings, tossing 4.2 innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Elmhurst travels to Eureka College on April 8.
