Elmhurst Takes Pair at Millikin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ill. - Dave Wolak tied the Elmhurst career hits record while helping the Elmhurst baseball team sweep a CCIW doubleheader at Millikin University. The Bluejays battered the Big Blue 11-1 in game one and finished the sweep with a 13-4 win in game two.

Wolak totaled two hits in each game, raising his career total to 215 and equaling the Elmhurst career record set by Brad Groth in 2004.

ELMHURST 11, MILLIKIN 1 - The Bluejays scored early and often, racing out to a 9-0 lead after three innings and pulling away for the 10-run victory in seven innings.

Elmhurst (13-19, 8-9 CCIW) jumped on the scoreboard quickly, scoring a pair of runs on a Zach Tsiodras two-run single in the first. The Bluejays scored five runs in the second with Chris Fisher starting the scoring with a two-run homer. Wolak, Tsiodras and Ben Havel also drove in runs for Elmhurst in the second.

An RBI single from A.J. Compton and a sacrifice fly from Wolak in the third staked the Bluejays to a 9-0 lead.

After Millikin (7-26, 1-16 CCIW) scored a run in the fourth, the Bluejays put the game away with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to win via the 10-run mercy rule. 

Compton, Wolak, Tsiodras, Fisher and Travis Pickard all totaled two hits apiece to lead the Bluejays' offense. Wolak scored three runs and drove in two while Tsiodras knocked home three runs and Fisher tacked on two RBI.

Jordan Hanlon picked up the victory for Elmhurst, limiting the Big Blue to only four hits and one earned run in seven innings. Hanlon walked five and fanned three in the victory.

ELMHURST 13, MILLIKIN 4 - The Bluejays capped the day with a 13-4 win over the Big Blue in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Bluejays scored four runs in the second on an RBI single from Alex Molek, a two-run double from Pickard and a run-scoring double from Compton.

An RBI single from Tyler Wargo and a run-scoring ground out from Wolak gave the Bluejays a six-run cushion. An RBI single from Fisher in the fifth made it 7-0 in favor of Elmhursst.

After Millikin scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Bluejays plated four runs in the top of the eighth to blow the game open.

Millikin scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to bring the Big Blue to within seven, but Tsiodras delivered a two-run single for the Bluejays in the ninth to hand Elmhurst the nine-run win.

Wolak banged out a single in the eighth and tied Groth's career record for hits with a single in the ninth inning.

All nine Elmhurst starters registered at least one hit with Tsiodras leading the charge with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate. Tsiodras scored two runs and drove in three. Wolak collected two hits, scored two runs and drove in a pair of runs while Compton and Wargo totaled two hits, two runs and one RBI apiece.

Justin Theisen pitched seven strong innings to earn the victory for the Bluejays. Theisen scattered seven hits and three walks, allowing just one run while striking out three.

Elmhurst and Millikin will play the final game of the three-game series tomorrow, April 27, in Decatur.
