Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team fell to 0-3 in the CCIW after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to North Park University.
Elmhurst (4-9, 0-3) was blown out 27-5 in the opening game before dropping the night cap 13-9 to North Park.
NORTH PARK 27, ELMHURST 5 - North Park scored 10 runs in the top of the first en route to running away with the first game of the doubleheader.
North Park banged out to 10 hits in the opening frame with Eric Sousanes belting a two-run homer and Tyler Woolbright cracking a three-run blast to spark North Park's offense.
The Vikings added a run in the second, six in the third and five in the fifth to open up a 22-0 lead before Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard.
North Park finished with 30 hits in the contest with Sousanes and Joe Belmonte totaling five hits and four RBI apiece.
Ben Havel recorded two of Elmhurst's six hits and scored a pair of runs in the loss.
Brandon Kressner drove in two runs for the Bluejays.
Jeff Guzzi took the loss for Elmhurst, working one third of an inning and surrendering eights and 10 runs.
NORTH PARK 13, ELMHURST 9 - North Park (12-6, 3-0 CCIW) erased a five-run deficit to complete the three-game series sweep of the Bluejays.
Elmhurst jumped out to a an 8-3 lead after two innings by scoring two runs in the first and six runs in the second. Havel accounted for both Elmhurst runs in the first with a two-run single.
Tyler Wargo singled home a pair of runs in the second and
Luke Collins smashed a three-run homer to spark the Bluejays in the second.
North Park slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth to even the score at 8-8. The Vikings went on top with three runs in the sixth with Belmonte singling home two runs. North Park tacked on a run in the seventh to go up 12-8. The Bluejays cut into the lead with a Wargo RBI single in the eighth, but the Vikings Brett Bernal singled home a run in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 13-9.
Zach Tsiodras led Elmhurst's offense, finishing 4-for-5 at the plate. Havel and Collins drove in three runs apiece while Wargo added two RBI and scored a pair of runs.
Bernal and Dan Sabin drove in four runs apiece to pace North Park.
Justin Theisen took the loss for the Bluejays after surrendering 12 hits and 10 runs (six earned) in 5.2 innings of work.
Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College in a CCIW doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1.
