Bluejays Downed By 16th-Ranked Whitewater

Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team slipped to 2-5 on the season after suffering a 14-3 loss to 16th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at the RussMatt Tournament in Florida.

Elmhurst scored the game's opening run in the top of the first on Zach Tsiodras' RBI single. Whitewater (5-0) answered back and broke the game wide open in the bottom of the frame, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs on eight hits. The Warhawks banged out seven consecutive hits in the innings.

Whitewater added two runs in the fourth and tacked on three more runs in the sixth to extended their cushion to 12-1. The Bluejays scored two runs in the top of the seventh on RBI singles from Chris Fisher and Tyler Wargo to cut the deficit down to nine.

The Warhawks' Kyle Haen cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give Whitewater a walk-off victory by virtue of the 10-run rule.

A.J. Compton and Tyler Wargo recorded two hits apiece for the Bluejays in the loss.

Justin Theisen made the start for the Bluejays and took the loss, tossing five innings and surrendering 14 hits and nine earned runs while striking out four.

Elmhurst plays a doubleheader against the Rochester Institute of Technology on Monday, March 24.
