Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team was eliminated from CCIW Tournament contention following an 80-52 loss at Augustana College.
After defeating the Vikings last month in Elmhurst, the Bluejays were unable to earn the season sweep as Augustana (18-6, 6-5 CCIW) secured its spot in the CCIW Tournament with the 28-point victory. The loss dropped the Bluejays to 5-7 in the CCIW and out of the CCIW Tournament race.
Elmhurst (13-10, 5-7 CCIW) led early at 10-8, but a Hinter Hill three-pointer with 15:14 remaining in the opening half, put Augustana on top for good, as the Vikings never trailed for the remainder of the contest. Leading by six with seven minutes to play in the opening half, the Vikings outscored Elmhurst 15-7 for the remainder of the half to build a 38-26 lead at the half.
Augustana continued to pull away in the second half, using an 18-7 run to extend their lead to 24 points with eight minutes remaining. The Vikings led by as many as 30 points in the half and cruised to the 28-point victory.
Elmhurst shot 36.0 percent (18-of-50) from the floor but were ice cold from three-point range, hitting just 1-of-9 attempts (11.1 percent).

Will Nixon were the only Bluejays to reach double figures in scoring. Sanford totaled a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Nixon scored a team-leading 13 points in the loss.
Taylor Baxter chipped in with seven points for the Bluejays. Augustana turned 20 Elmhurst turnovers into 21 points.
Augustana shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from th e floor, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from downtown. Twelve different Vikings cracked the scorebook with Tayvian Johnson leading the charge with 19 points. Ben Ryan shot 6-of-13 to score 12 while Kevin Schlitter came off the bench to total 12 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings.The Vikings bench outscored Elmhurst's reserves 33-15 in the victory.
Elmhurst travels to Millikin University on Wednesday, February 19.
