ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's basketball team upped its record to 10-1 with a 90-72 defeat of Kalamazoo College.

With the victory, the Bluejays won 10 non-conference games for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

Trailing 4-3 just 90 seconds into the game, Elmhurst used an 11-2 run to build a 14-6 lead after
Pat Coleman splashed home his third three-pointer of the half. The Bluejays used another late run to extend their lead to more than 20 points. Leading by seven (26-19) with 7:24 left in the half, the Bluejays closed the half on a 21-7 run to carry a 47-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Kalamazoo (5-6) came out firing to start the second half as Adam Dykema scored eight straight points, including a pair of three-pointers to pull the Hornets to within 13 less than two minutes into the half. The Hornets kept coming as a Dykema jumper brought Kalamazoo to within 10 points with 13 minutes left to play.

The Bluejays answered the rally with a 19-6 run over the next five minutes to establish their biggest lead of the half at 23 points. Three-point plays from
Kyle Wuest and
Kenny Payonk and a three-pointer from
Eric Leonard helped spark the Bluejays' run.

Nathan RogersThe Hornets wouldn't go away as Kalamazoo answered back 15-3 over the next 4:30 to close to within 11 at 81-70 with 4:37 left on the clock. Elmhurst limited Kalamazoo to just two points for the duration of the contest while pulling away for the 90-72 victory.

Elmhurst shot an even 50.0 percent (30-of-60) from the field. After hitting 7-of-15 from beyond the arc in the opening half, the Bluejays hit just 2-of-10 in the second half to finish the game at 36.0 percent (9-of-25). The Bluejays capitalized on every Kalamazoo mistake, scoring 25 points off of just 10 Hornets' turnovers.

Nathan Rogers led a balanced Elmhurst attack, finishing with a game-high 16 points. Coleman and Wuest scored 13 points apiece while
Brandon Schwebke totaled 10 points and five assists. Payonk scored nine and
Erik Crittenden added eight for Elmhurst.
Will Nixon tallied seven points to go with a team-leading eight rebounds.

Kalamazoo shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the floor, including 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from downtown.

After scoring just five in the first half, Dykema exploded in the second, scoring 21 points to finish with a game-high 26 points. Carl Ghafari and Adam Peters finished with 12 points apiece for the Hornets.

Elmhurst opens CCIW play on Saturday, January 3, by hosting Wheaton College at 4:00 p.m.
