DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Elmhurst women's basketball team dropped to 3-3 on the season following an 82-69 road loss at Loras College.
Elmhurst fell behind early, trailing 28-20 after the first 12 minutes of action. The Bluejays answered back using a 14-5 run to move in front 34-33 after a pair of free throws from
Hannah Lipman. Down by a point with 2:30 left in the half, Loras closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 43-36 lead at the break.
The Bluejays' scoring draught continued into the start of the second half as Loras scored the first eight points to take a 15-point lead at 51-36. Elmhurst was never able to pull within a single digit deficit for the remainder of the game as Loras built a 19-point cushion before closing out the contest with an 82-69 win.
Elmhurst shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the floor, but only 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from three-point range. Four Bluejays reached double figures in scoring with
Fiona McMahon leading the way with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Kalia Summerlin and
Melanie Schwerdtmann totaled 14 points apiece in the loss while
Mikaela Eppard tallied 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.
Loras (5-2) shot 48.6 percent (33-of-69) from the floor and 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the foul line. Victoria May and Kaitlin Phillips both recorded double-doubles to pace the Duhawks. May scored a game-high 23 points and totaled 10 rebounds while Phillips scored 11 points and dished out 10 assists. Lori Obendorf added 12 points and seven rebounds for Loras. There McMahon came off the bench to score 10 for Loras.
