NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Undefeated performances from Alex Maynard and Matt Quigley led the Elmhurst wrestling team to a 2-2 record at the Gator Boot Duals. 
 

Elmhurst, ranked No. 25 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll, started the day with a 23-18 win over Ferrum College before falling to Heidelberg University 20-16. The Bluejays then bounced back with an emphatic 43-6 win over Washington and Lee University, but finished the day with a 25-16 loss to Waynesburg University. 

Maynard, after missing almost two years due to injuries, won all three of his bouts, pinning two opponents and defeating one by major decision. Quigley was the only Bluejay to post four wins on the day, which included two pins and two victories by decision. 

ELMHURST 23, FERRUM 18 - The Bluejays came back from an early nine-point deficit and then held off a late Ferrum rally to defeat the Panthers. 

Ferrum quickly secured nine points with a pair of wins to begin the dual. Robert Cummingham won by major decision over Anthony Munoz (13-5) and Justin Zimmerman took out Tyler Espino by technical fall (18-2).
 

Trailing by nine, Quigley started the Elmhurst comeback by pinning Paul Biggs in 1:23. Blake Santi and Jim Spangler followed with wins by decision before the Bluejays broke open a 20-9 lead with major decision victories from Maynard and Mitch Morris.

Ferrum climbed to within two points with wins at 184 and 197 pounds. In those bouts, Corbin Ramos defeated Bobby Schillinger 4-0 and Nicholas Rodriquez pinned Luis Montoya in two minutes. With the score 20-18, the 285-pound bout would decide the dual. Zack Urbanski clinched the Bluejay win with a 9-3 victory over Tate Dulany.

HEIDELBERG 20, ELMHURST 16 - In their second dual of the day, Elmhurst dropped a close battle with Heidelberg. 
 

The two teams split the first four bouts, tying the score at seven. Munoz (major) and Quigley scored wins for the Bluejays at 125 and 141 pounds respectively.

Heidelberg took control of the dual by defeating Elmhurst in four of the next five bouts. Maynard scored the only win for the Bluejays during that stretch by pinning Alex Kenner in 1:02. Trailing by four, Colton Kelly kept the Bluejays alive with a 7-6 win over Matt Shutina at 197 pounds, cutting the Heidelberg lead to one. This time, Elmhurst's Urbanski fell to fourth-ranked Nino Majoy 2-0 to close the dual.

ELMHURST 43, WASHINGTON AND LEE 6 - Elmhurst bounced back with a 43-6 domination of Washington and Lee. 
 

Elmhurst received four forfeits with Munoz, Espino, Spangler, and Urbanski each claiming six points for the Bluejays. 

Elmhurst also won four of the six bouts that were contested en route to the victory. Quigley (2:15) and Santi (2:17) put the Bluejays in front 24-0 with almost identical pins. The Generals scored their two victories at 165 pounds, when Brandon LeFore narrowly defeated Nick Dinardo 4-3, and 184 pounds, when Ron Tassoni took out Schillinger 8-2.

Morris' 13-4 major decision win over George Matelich and Montoya's 2-0 victory over Bennett Lewis wrapped up the win for the Bluejays.

WANYESBURG 25, ELMHURST 16 - Elmhurst dropped their final match of the day to Waynesburg 25-16. 
 

The Yellowjackets started the dual strong, taking a 10-0 lead in the first two bouts. Quigley scored his fourth win of the day at 141 pounds to put the Bluejays on the board, but eighth-ranked Luke Lohr edged Santi in overtime at 149 pounds to give Waynesburg a 13-3 lead. 

Elmhurst pulled even at 13 when Dinardo won by major decision at 157 pounds and Maynard recorded his second pin of the day at 165 pounds. Waynesburg seized control again with two consecutive one-point wins. Morris narrowly upset seventh-ranked Sam Guidi, but dropped a 4-3 decision and Schillinger fell 7-6 at 184 pounds. Montoya's win by decision (4-0) pulled Elmhurst to within three points, but Greg Kumar clinched the dual for the Yellowjackets by pinning Urbanski (3:15) at 285 pounds.
