CHICAGO, Ill. - Five different players reached double figures in scoring to lead the Elmhurst women's basketball team to a 96-47 win over the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Mikaela EppardMikaela Eppard knocked down a jumper less than a minute into the contest to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard and the Bluejays never trailed for the rest of the contest. The Bluejays used an 11-0 run to grab a 15-4 lead. Leading by 12 with 4:30 left in the half, Elmhurst closed with a 14-5 run to take a 21-point lead (48-27) into the locker room.
Elmhurst continued its dominance in the second half, shooting 47.2 percent (17-of-36) from the floor while outscoring IIT 48-29 en route to the 49-point victory.
The Bluejays finished the contest shooting 47.2 percent (36-of-75) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc. Elmhurst was nearly flawless from the foul line, hitting 18-of-20 attempts (90.0 percent). The Bluejays were dominant on the glass, outrebounding IIT 60-24, including a 24-to-8 advantage on the offensive glass.
Eleven different Bluejays scored points in the victory. Eppard led Elmhurst and all scorers with a game-high 21 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor. She finished with a double-double by adding a game-high 14 rebounds.
Kalia Summerlin chipped with 11 points while
Melanie Schwerdtmann,
Courtney Spencer and
Fiona McMahon scored 10 points apiece.
Kaela Jones added nine points while
Tiara Fitzpatrick scored six.
IIT shot 28.3 percent (15-of-53) from the floor, including 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from downtown. Kayle Wicka led the Scarlet Hawks in the loss with 14 points. Adrianna Maron and Jessica Rodriguez added 13 points apiece.
Elmhurst travels to Atlanta, Ga. to play in the Oglethorpe University Tournament.
