CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Four players reached double figures in scoring but it wasn't enough, as the Elmhurst women's basketball team fell 78-72 at Coe College.

Elmhurst slipped to 3-2 on the season while Coe evened its record at 2-2 on the season.

The two squads traded points in the opening half with neither team able to lead by more than five points after the first 11 minutes. With the score even at 23-23 with just under seven minutes remaining, Elmhurst opened up seven-point cushion on a 9-2 run. Back-to-back three-pointers from
Kalia Summerlin and a trey from Melanie Schwerdtman keyed Elmhurst's run. The Bluejays' led by seven with three minutes left in the half, but Coe closed on a 7-2 run to cut Elmhurst's lead down to two (38-36) at the half.

Elmhurst built its lead back to six points early in the second half, but Coe scored six straight to knot the score at 52-52 with 12:27 left. The lead changed hands four times over the next four minutes until Coe used a 6-0 run to take a 65-60 lead with seven minutes remaining.

Elmhurst trimmed the lead down to just one point on a
Hannah Lipman bucket with two minutes remaining. After both teams missed buckets, Coe's Aleena Hobbs was fouled and drained a pair of free throws to give the Kohawks a 73-70 lead. After an Elmhurst miss, Allie Worth hit two free throws to bump Coe's lead up to five with 30 seconds left. A
Fiona McMahon bucket pulled Elmhurst to within three points with 17 seconds left, but Coe hit 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to score the 78-72 victory.

Elmhurst shot 34.7 percent (25-of-72) from the floor and struggled from downtown, hitting just 5-of-19 (26.3 percent) attempts. Elmhurst committed a season-low eight turnovers while forcing Coe into 16 turnovers and scoring 17 points off the Kohawks' mistakes.

McMahon totaled a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Bluejays. Scwerdtmann came off the bench to score a team-leading 16 points in the loss.
Mikaela Eppard and Lipman totaled 12 points apiece. Â Summerlin totaled nine points, hitting three three-pointers.

Coe shot 47.7 percent from the floor (27-of-57) and did most of its damage inside, scoring 40 points in the paint. Hobbs led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to total a double-double. Megan Hayes added 17 points while Mickey Hansche scored 13. Janne Lehman finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
