Bluejays Fall to Chicago in Three

LISLE, Ill. – The Elmhurst volleyball team closed out the Benedictine University Invitational with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-19.

Elmhurst fell to 29-7 overall while Chicago improved to 24-11 with the win.

Chicago never trailed in the opening set, building a quick 10-6 advantage. The Maroons extended their lead to six points at 16-10 and pulled away for the 25-18 win, never letting Elmhurst come closer than a four-point deficit.

Elmhurst had a brief lead at 8-5 in the second set, but Chicago roared back with a 9-2 run to take a 14-10 lead. The Bluejays pulled to within a point at 15-14, but the Maroons slowly extended their lead back to five points before pulling away for the 25-19 win.
 
Chicago stormed out in the third set, winning the first five points while building a quick 10-3 lead. Elmhurst closed to within two points at 14-12 after a 9-4 run. Leading 17-15, Chicago opened up a five-point cushion at 22-17and pulled away to end the match.
 
Elmhurst hit.214 for the match with 38 kills and 13 errors in 112 attempts. Chicago finished the match hitting .315 with 43 kills and only eight errors in 111 attacks.
 
Sam Szarmach led Elmhurst in the loss with 11 kills and six digs. Melissa Nava chipped in with nine kills while Hannah Nimrick totaled eight kills, 25 assists and seven dig. Peggy Clemens totaled a team-leading 18 digs in the loss.
 
Maren Loe paced the Maroon's attack, finishing with 18 kills and nine digs. Morgan Barry added 10 kills while Eirene Kim led the squad in digs with 20. Jasmine Mobley finished with seven kills for the Maroons.
 
Elmhurst wraps up 2014 regular season by traveling to Millikin University on Tuesday, November 4.
