WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team dropped their CCIW opener to seventh-ranked Wheaton College.
The Thunder (9-1-1) scored four second-half goals enroute to a 5-0 victory.
Elmhurst (6-4) hung in the game for the first 50 minutes. Wheaton only scored one goal in that time, a 16th minute goal by Ally Witt.
After that, the Thunder scored three times in 13 minutes. In the 51st minute, Anna Seabolt connected with Kristin Rauh, who put a shot in the upper right corner. Two minutes later, Sydney Sharkey ripped a shot inside the left post. Wheaton extended their lead to 4-0 in the 64th minute when Rauh put home her second goal of the night.
Anna Burridge added a late insurance goal to extend the lead to 5-0.
Wheaton outshot Elmhurst 23-12 in the contest.
Emily Heimerdinger recorded four shots and put three of them on frame.
Meagan McPherson added four shots for the Bluejays.
In goal,
Melinda Vickers played the first half, giving up one goal and making four saves.
Emily Gordon replaced Vickers at halftime and stopped four shots, but gave up four goals. Wheaton's Kelsey Graham and Abbey Fuster combined for the shutout. Graham made six saves and Fuster made one.
The Bluejays look for their first CCIW win when they host Augustana College Saturday, October 11.
