Camiliere Leads Bluejays Past North Park

ELMHURST, Ill. - Joe Camiliere accounted for over 300 yards of offense and three touchdowns while guiding the Elmhurst football team to a 28-0 shutout win over North Park University in front of a homecoming crowd at Langhorst Field.

Camiliere passed for 262 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 45 yards and a score. Elmhurst dominated the game in almost every aspect, compiling 428 yards of total offense while limiting the Vikings to only 166 yards of offense. The Bluejays also dominated the time of possession, controlling the ball for over 40 minutes of the game. Elmhurst's defense also kept North Park off the scoreboard the two times the Vikings entered the red zone.

Elmhurst wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, taking the opening kickoff and driving 69-yards in just over four minutes. Camiliere keyed the drive with a 37-yard pass down the middle to Kaylon Miller. Josh Williams capped the scoring drive with an eight-yard touchdown run.

After North Park was forced to punt on its opening possession, the Bluejays' offense went to work, marching 85 yards in 11 plays. Camiliere hooked up with Miller for a 41-yard touchdown strike to put Elmhurst on top 14-0.

North Park entered the red zone twice in the second quarter and was turned away both times by the Elmhurst defense. Billy Viero blocked a 29-yard field goal attempt from Noah Moore early in the quarter to end one North Park drive. After an Elmhurst punt, North Park drove to the Elmhurst 18-yard line on a drive that was kept alive by a roughing the kicker penalty on the Bluejays. Facing a fourth-and-five from the Elmhurst 18-yard line, T.D. Conway's pass fell incomplete to give Elmhurst the ball back on downs.

North Park had one additional chance late in the second quarter. Vikings' wide receiver Terrance Wright was uncovered down the far sideline, but Conway overshot the receiver and North Park was forced to punt two plays later.

Elmhurst extended its lead to 21-0 early in the third quarter. Taking over after a North Park punt at their own 46-yard line, the Bluejays needed just five plays to find the end zone. Camiliere hit Garrett Claxon on a 14-yard touchdown pass to give the Bluejays a three-touchdown cushion.

A muffed punt by the Bluejays gave North Park the ball back at the Elmhurst 25-yard line, but the Bluejays' defense quickly ended the scoring threat. Marvin Carr picked off Conway's pass on the second play of the drive to give Elmhurst the ball back on offense.

After Elmhurst was forced to punt deep inside its own territory, North Park took over at its own 48-yard line and drove down to the Elmhurst 32-yard line. Facing a fourth-and-two, the Vikings' Drew Walkington was stuffed after a one-yard gain, giving the Bluejays the ball back on offense.

The Bluejays responded with an impressive 14-play, 72-yard drive that ate up almost eight minutes of the clock in the fourth quarter. After a holding penalty backed Elmhurst up to the North Park 11-yard line, Camiliere scored on an 11-yard run, driving a pile of North Park tacklers several yards into the end zone.

Camiliere finished an impressive 17-of-24 through the air for 262 yards and two touchdowns. He added 10 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. Williams led the Bluejays on the ground, rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Claxon was the top target, catching six passes for 67 yards and one touchdown. Miller hauled in three passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Conway struggled for most of the day, completing just 11-of-33 pass attempts for 104 yards and one interception. The Vikings entered the game, ranked 41st in the nation in passing offense, averaging over 273 yards per game. Walkington led the Vikings' ground attack with 18 carries for 65 yards. Anthony Burton led the Vikings' receivers with four catches for 78 yards.

Jake Garabedian led Elmhurst's defense with five tackles, including one tackle for loss. Andy Warsen, Perode Charles, Eddie Beyer, Jake Pawlicki and Viero all totaled four tackles apiece in the victory. Nick Spracklen recorded the Bluejays' only sack of the game.

Elmhurst improved to 4-2 overall and remained unbeaten (3-0) in the CCIW with its third straight victory. North Park slipped to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in league play with the loss. The win by Elmhurst was the 14th straight victory over North Park and the third shutout of the Vikings in the last five seasons.

Elmhurst travels to Illinois Wesleyan University next Saturday, October 25.
