NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 road match to North Central College.
The Cardinals (7-3, 4-2 CCIW) swept three tightly contested doubles contests before taking all six singles matches over the Bluejays (2-6, 1-4 CCIW).
North Central began doubles play on a positive note when Miranda Grizaffi and Clare O'Connor won an 8-2 decision at No. 3 doubles over Elmhurst's
Lauren Kuehn and
Alexis Adams. The Cardinals won the next two matches by just one break. Kelsey Forkin and Reynolds Cross defeated
Nicole Darga and
Annie Duggan 8-5 at No. 1 and Katie Drone and Hanna Andersson beat
Hannah Vaselaney and
Brittany Kuehn 9-7 at No. 2.
The Cardinals took over the match in singles play. Elmhurst's
Allie Moran fell at No. 6 to Andersson 6-2, 6-0. B. Kuehn followed with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Forkin at No. 3. Vaselaney dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 4 to Cross, while Darga lost 6-1, 6-0 to Drone at No. 1. At No. 5, L. Kuehn played a tight 6-3 first set before losing the second 6-1 to O'Connor. Duggan pushed her opponent as well, but fell to the Cardinals' Grizaffi 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University this Saturday, October 4 at the Brune Tennis Courts.
