Men's Hoops Squad Upended at Wheaton

Box Score WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team could not overcome a fast start by Wheaton College, falling to the Thunder 93-68 on the road.

Wheaton (9-4, 2-0 CCIW) hit seven of its first nine shots while racing out to a 22-6 lead in the opening six minutes of the contest. Leading by nine (27-18) with 8:46 left in the opening half, the Thunder closed the half on a 28-11 run to build a commanding 56-29 lead at the half. Wheaton shot a whopping 66.7 percent (16-of-24) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, including 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from three-point range.

Wheaton led by as many as 31 points in the second half and never let Elmhurst (8-5, 0-2 CCIW) come closer than 20 points as the Thunder cruised to the victory.

Wheaton finished the contest shooting 54.5 percent (30-of-55) from the field and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from downtown. The Thunder also went to the free throw line 34 times, sinking 24 attempts.

Elmhurst shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) in the contest, including 52.0 percent (13-of-25) in the second half. The Bluejays struggled from long distance, hitting just 3-of-13 three-point attempts (23.1 percent).

Kyle Wuest led Elmhurst in the loss with 13 points and four assists. Will Nix added 13 points while Nick Sanford and Bryant Ackerman scored 10 points apiece for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst had no answer for the Thunder's Tyler Peters as Peters poured in 33 points, shooting 13-of-21 from the floor. Brayden Teuscher added 21 points while Tad Fisher came off the bench to score 16. Peter Smith also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points.

Elmhurst will look for its first CCIW win of the season on Saturday, January 11, when the Bluejays host Millikin University at 4:00 p.m.
