BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team slipped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in CCIW play after dropping a 5-4 decision to Illinois Wesleyan University.
Elmhurst started strongly, winning two out of three doubles matches.
Annie Duggan and
Meg Griffin downed Andrea Kerwin and Lauren Drawbridge 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Nicole Daraga and
Cassie Kovach edged Svenja Schroeder and Lauren Casey 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Illinois Wesleyan's Brianna Dao and Josie Linman downed
Brittany Kuehn and
Kayla Mangiapane 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Illinois Wesleyan won four of the six singles matches to earn the victory. Kerwin edged Duggan 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Drawbridge edged Griffin in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 6-2) at No. 3 singles. Dao defeated Kuehn 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles while Linman defeated Mangiapane at No. 5 singles after Mangiapane was forced to retire due to an injury. Elmhurst scored its singles points at No. 2 and No. 6 singles. Darga defeated Schroeder 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles while
Jennifer Guenther defeated Nina Waszak 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
