Bluejays Blast Dominican 14-4

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team scored 10 runs in the seventh inning en route to a 14-4 non-conference win over Dominican University at Butterfield Park.

Dominican (12-26) scored three runs in the top of the third to jump out to an early lead before the Bluejays mounted a rally.

Elmhurst scored a run in the fourth on a Zach Tsiodras RBI single to make the score 3-1. Dominican answered back with a run in the top of the sixth to reclaim a three-run cushion.

Joe Kennedy roped a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to pull Elmhurst (17-16) to within a run.

The Bluejays broke the game open in the seventh inning by sending 15 batters to the plate, with 11 consecutive reaching base at one point. Elmhurst scored 10 runs in the innings keyed by two-run triples from Brian Evans and Dave Wolak. Luke Collins belted a three-run homer to left field while Tyler Wargo added a two-run single. Tsiodras used an RBI single to account for the Bluejays' 10th RBI of the inning.

Lucas Spezia gave the Bluejays a walk-off win by 10 runs in the eighth inning when he doubled home Kennedy to give Elmhurst the 14-4 win.

Collins paced Elmhurst with three RBI in the victory while Evans, Wargo, Wolak, Tsiodras and Kennedy all drove in two runs apiece in the win.

Chris Eberhart (1-0) earned his first win of the season in relief. Eberhart allowed just one hit and one run in three innings of work while striking out two. Ben Modesitt made the start and earned a no-decision, tossing five innings and allowing four hits and three unearned runs. He walked three and fanned one.

Elmhurst hosts Concordia University-Chicago tomorrow (April 30).
