Bluejays Topple Augustana after Falling to North Park

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team moved to 16-16 on the season after splitting a pair of CCIW contests. Elmhurst opened the day with a 4-3 loss to North Park, but bounced back to defeat Augustana 8-4.

NORTH PARK 4, ELMHURST 3 - Elmhurst (7-11 CCIW) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after scoring twice in the first and adding a run in the second. An RBI single from Joe Kennedy and a run-scoring grounder from Luke Collins staked Elmhurst to a quick lead in the first. The Bluejays tacked on a run in the second on Tyler Wargo's RBI ground out.

North Park (18-17, 11-7 CCIW) slowly began chipping away at the lead. The Vikings scored a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to even the score at 3-3. North Park went on top for the first time in the contest in the eighth when Zak Worsley singled home the game-winning run.

Brian Evans, Wargo and Zach Tsiodras finished with two hits apiece in the loss to lead the Bluejays at the plate.

Jordan Hanlon pitched well for Elmhurst despite taking the loss. Hanlon worked seven innings and scattered 10 hits and four earned runs. He walked three and struck out three.

North Park's Nick Vidas earned the win, throwing seven innings and allowing nine hits and three earned runs while walking three. John Nemcek pitched two perfect innings in relief to record the save.

ELMHURST 8, AUGUSTANA 4 - Elmhurst won the rubber game of the three-game series against Augustana with an 8-4 victory.

The Bluejays struck for four runs in the second inning keyed by RBI singles from Brian Evans and Tyler Wargo and a two-run double from Dave Wolak.

Augustana tied the game with a pair on unearned runs in the fourth inning, but the Bluejays answered right back, grabbing a 5-4 lead on an RBI single from Kennedy.

Eric Stevenson gave the Bluejays a two-run cushion in the fifth inning by cracking a solo home over the left field fence, his first of the season.

The Bluejays tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to score the four-run victory.

Wolak finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two driven in. Wargo and Tsiodras totaled two hits apiece in the victory.

Ryan Millan remained unbeaten on the season, upping his record to 4-0 on the year. He worked seven innings, scattering nine hits and just one earned run. He walked one and struck out seven. Brian Cvitkovich pitched scoreless innings in relief to record his second save of the season.

Elmhurst hosts Dominican University on Monday (April 29) at 6:30 p.m.
