Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team split a doubleheader at North Park, toppling the Vikings 9-5 in game one before falling 10-0 in game two.
Elmhurst moved to 15-15 overall and 6-10 in the CCIW with the split while North Park upped its record to 17-17 overall and 10-7 in league play.
ELMHURST 9, NORTH PARK 5 - Elmhurst broke open a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning by plating five runs and holding on for a 9-5 win in game one.
WIth the score knotted at three in the fifth, the Bluejays jumped in front on RBI singles from
Zach Tsiodras,
Joe Kennedy and
Greg Struck. A bases loaded walk to
Lucas Spezia forced in another run and the Bluejays scored their fifth of the inning on a double play grounder.
Elmhurst tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to open up a 9-3 cushion. North Park scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 9-5 in favor of the Bluejays.
Tyler Wargo collected two hits and scored three runs to pace the Bluejays at the plate. Collins added a pair of hits and scored a run while Kennedy and Tsiodras drove in two runs apiece.
Brian Marquis went the distance for the Bluejays and earned the win (2-4). Marquis scattered 13 hits and five runs while walking two and striking out two.
NORTH PARK 10, ELMHURST 0 - North Park salvaged a split in the doubleheader by breaking the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.
A two-run triple from Mike Coduto, an RBI double from Mike Kane and a two-run single from Zak Worsley sparked the Vikings in the seventh.
Tsiodras and Kennedy totaled two hits apiece as the Bluejays were limited to only five hits in the contest.
Jeff Guzzi took the loss for the Bluejays, working four innings and allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He walked four in the loss.
Wes Mleziva tossed a complete game shutout for the Vikings. Mleziva allowed just five hits and three runs over seven innings while fanning two.
Elmhurst finishes the three-game series against North Park tomorrow at Butterfield Park. The Bluejays and North Park will begin at 12:00 p.m. Following the game against North Park, Elmhurst will take on Augustana College.
