Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team rallied from a seven-run deficit to tip the University of Chicago 13-12 at Butterfield Park.
Elmhurst trailed 8-1 in the fourth and was down 12-8 entering the bottom of the eighth, but rallied twice to earn the win.
Down by five runs entering the sixth, the Bluejays batted around and scored five times to knot the score.
Tyler Wargo started the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Zach Tsiodras singled to right to drive in a pair and a Chicago error allowed
Dave Wolak to come around from first and score.
Joe Kennedy capped the scoring with an RBI single to knock home Tsiodras.
Chicago surged back in front with four runs in the top of the eighth to take a 12-8 lead. The Bluejays cut the deficit in half in the eighth with RBI singles from Tsiodras and Kennedy.
Back-to-back walks to
Brian Evans and Wargo and an error on Chicago loaded the bases for the Bluejays to start the ninth. Tsiodras singled home a run to cut the lead down to one. After a strikeout,
Luke Collins lined a single to left field to score Wargo and Wolak and give the Bluejays the win.
Elmhurst finished with 18 hits in the contest with Tsiodras leading the hit parade with four. He also led the squad with five runs driven in. Wargo added three hits while scoring a pair of runs and driving in two. Evans finished 2-for-4 while scoring three runs and knocking in one. Kennedy and
Brian Marquis collected two hits apiece in the win.
Erik Swanson earned the win in relief by pitching a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout.
Elmhurst's pitchers struggled with control through the first four innings as Chicago scored eight runs on just three hits. Bluejay pitchers combined to walk 11 batters and hit another four.
Elmhurst's scheduled contest against Rockford for Thursday, April 25 has been cancelled due a conference make-up obligation for Rockford. The Bluejays travel to North Park on Saturday (April 27).
