Box Score 2 KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst baseball team was shut out in both of ends of a doubleheader at Carthage College. The Bluejays dropped the opening game 3-0 before falling 7-0 in the nightcap.
Elmhurst fell to 12-13 overall with the loss and 4-8 in the CCIW. The Bluejays have now dropped six straight contests.
CARTHAGE 3, ELMHURST 0 - Carthage's Jeremy Salzman and Mitch Lochen limited Elmhurst to only four hits while combining for a shutout in game one.
The Red Men scored a run in the first on Klye Pusateri's sacrifice fly. They added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings to earn the 3-0 win.
Dave Wolak collected two of the Bluejays' four hits in the loss.
Salzman limited Elmhurst to only three hits and two walks over six innings of work. He fanned seven while not allowing a run. Lochen earned a save by tossing the final three innings and surrendering just one hit while striking out one.
For the second straight contest,
Brian Marquis pitched well enough to earn a win, but suffered the loss for Elmhurst. Marquis scattered seven hits and one walk and allowed just two earned runs in eight innings. Marquis struck out two while throwing the complete game.
CARTHAGE 7, ELMHURST 0 - Missed opportunities doomed the Bluejays as Elmhurst left 13 runners on base and hit just 2-of-13 with runners in scoring position.
Carthage scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seven to open up a 7-0 lead. The Bluejays best scoring chance came in the eighth inning when the team loaded the bases with no outs. But a pair of strikeouts and a fly out ended the threat.
Marquis finished with three hits while
Tyler Wargo added two hits for the Bluejays.
Josh Daniels earned the win for Carthage, working seven innings and allowing nine hits and four walks while striking out seven.
Jeff Guzzi took the loss for Elmhurst, tossing 4.2 innings and surrendering four hits and three eared runs. He walked two and fanned three.
Elmhurst plays the final game of the three-game series at Butterfield Park on Sunday (April 21).
