Box Score LISLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team slipped to 12-8 overall after dropping a 10-8 contest at Benedictine University.
Originally scheduled for Butterfield Park, the game was moved to Lisle due to poor field conditions.
Elmhurst grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening inning on
Tyler Wargo's two-run single. Benedictine answered back with a run in the bottom of the first and then evened the score with a run in the second.
The Eagles tacked on a run in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth to open up an 8-2 lead. The Bluejays trimmed Benedictine's lead down to three after scoring three times in the seventh.
Brian Evans,
Joe Kennedy and
Dave Wolak all knocked home runs in the seventh for Elmhurst.
Benedictine scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to 10-5. The Bluejays added three runs in the ninth on singles from
Zach Tsiodras and
Luke Collins but left the tying runs on base to end the contest.
Evans, Kennedy, Wargo and
Chris Fisher recorded two hits apiece in the win for Elmhurst.
Bryan Baker suffered the loss for Elmhurst, working five innings and allowing eight hits and four earned runs. He walked three and fanned three.
Elmhurst opens a three-game series against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday (April 13).
