Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team evened its record on its Florida road trip and improved to 7-3 overall by sweeping a doubleheader from Fontbonne.
Elmhurst won the opening game 8-3 and then completed the sweep with a 13-4 victory in game two.
ELMHURST 8, FONTBONNE 3 - The Bluejays broke open a 3-3 tie with two runs in the fourth and then put the game away with three runs in the sixth.
Joe Kennedy broke the 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Dave Wolak added a run-scoring single to put the Bluejays
on top 5-3.
Run-scoring singles from
Zach Tsiodras and
Brian Marquis, along with a Fontbonne error, accounted for the Bluejays' three runs in the sixth inning.
Brian Evans finished 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs to lead the Elmhurst offense. Kennedy, Wolak and Marquis each collected two hits apiece. Wolak also scored two runs in drove in a team-leading three runs.
Ryan Millan recorded his first collegiate victory, working six innings and allowing just eight hits and two earned runs. He walked one and struck out five.
Erik Swanson pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
ELMHURST 13, FONTBONNE 4 - Elmhurst blew open a close came by scoring eight runs over the final two innings.
Leading 2-1 after four innings, the Bluejays scored three runs in the fifth on a two-run double from Tsiodras and an RBI single from
Luke Collins.
After Fontbonne plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Elmhurst answered back with three runs in the sixth. Wolak sparked the frame with a two-run triple. The Bluejays put the game out of reach in the seventh inning with a five-run outburst.
Evans continued his strong day at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Tsiodras added three hits and drove in three runs while Kennedy collected two hits, scored three times and drove in a run. Collins finished with two hits and also drove in two.
Brennan McClung picked up the victory, working 4.1 innings while scattering five hits, three walks and one earned run.
Brian Cvitkovich earned a save in relief, pitching the final 2.2 innings and allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out three.
Elmhurst closes out its Florida road trip against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
