Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Brian Marquis drove in three runs, including the game-winner, while leading the Elmhurst baseball team to a 6-4 win over Concordia University (Wis.).
Elmhurst upped its record to 5-1 with the win while Concordia slipped to 0-4.
The Bluejays fell behind 2-0 after Concordia plated a pair of runs in the third inning. Elmhurst answered back, with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.
Zach Tsiodras doubled home two runs to tie the game and Marquis singled home Tsiodras three batters later to put the Bluejays on top 3-2.
Concordia scored a run in the seventh to tie the game and plated a run in the top of the eighth to take a 4-3 lead.
The Bluejays scored three times in the eighth inning to cap the rally. With two on and no outs,
Tyler Wargo singled home a run to even the score. After
Luke Collins laid down a sacrifice bunt, Marquis delivered the key hit, a two-run single to put the Bluejays on top for good.
Marquis finished 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Bluejays' offense. Tsiodras scored two runs and drove in a pair in the win.
Jeff Guzzi made the start and pitched well while taking a no-decision. Guzzi worked six innings and scattered seven hits and three earned runs. He walked two while striking out six.
Erik Swanson earned the win in relief, improving to 3-0 on the season. Swanson pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed just one run, one hit and two walks.
Elmhurst plays a doubleheader against Colby College on Sunday (March 24).
